Google is investigating reports of Pixel 2 XL screen burn-in

Google Pixel 2 XL has earlier shown few problems in its display like grainy textures in low light and muddy colors but this time an even major issue has come out of its screen burn-in.

It has been firstly reported by Alex Dobie of Android Central on Twitter, and many other people onwards. Screen burn-in is a very uncommon issue for flagship devices like Pixel 2 XL. Many people have reported that when you look at the screen with a gray background you will observe faint impressions of navigation buttons of the device at the bottom.

Google Pixel 2 XL uses POLED technology with QHD+ resolution for its screen. Some people are saying that OLED screens often face burn-in issues but in this case, it is quite early almost 7 days for a review unit. We are not yet sure whether the image you are seeing below is an image retention or not. But if this issue is genuine then Google is in deep trouble.

Google replied with this statement when asked about the reports,

“The Pixel 2 XL screen has been designed with an advanced POLED technology, including QHD+ resolution, wide color gamut, and high contrast ratio for natural and beautiful colors and renderings. We put all of our products through extensive quality testing before launch and in the manufacturing of every unit. We are actively investigating this report.”

Screen burn-in problems in devices occur usually after several months or years but in this case its quite alarming if the reports are true. You can observe screen burn-in by opening a solid color image in full screen. Leave the picture up for almost 10 minutes for accurate observations. You can wait for the image retention side-effects to fade away. Now anything remaining on your display is most likely burn-in.

Google has given us a remarkable device as every other company was moving on with a trend of providing a bezel-less smartphone, Google has proved its uniqueness by giving big fat bezels in Pixel 2 XL.
