Google Contributes Rs. 3.9 Trillion to Pakistan’s Economy in 2023: Report

Google’s AI-powered products and services helped Pakistani businesses and households make Rs. 3.9 trillion in 2023, which is 222% more than they did in 2020.

The paper titled “ECONOMIC IMPACT REPORT: Agay Barho: Empowering Pakistan’s Digital Economy” states that this was accomplished by assisting Pakistani enterprises with digitization and providing them with access to internationally recognized marketplaces.

Prior research by Access Partnership found that in 2020, Google’s goods and services boosted Pakistani enterprises’ GDP by Rs. 1 trillion and households’ GDP by Rs. 210.2 billion. Effectiveness and expansion at home and abroad are hallmarks of Pakistani business.

Google Drives Rs. 2.6 Trillion Economic Growth in Pakistan

The combined impact of Google’s Search, Ads, AdSense, Play, Cloud, and YouTube on Pakistani enterprises reached Rs. 2.6 trillion in 2023, up 159% from the previous year. It is worth mentioning that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMBs) received 58% of this value, which emphasizes the efforts of Google to help Pakistan’s expanding SMB ecosystem.

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) reap the lion’s share of Google’s benefits, equivalent to Rs. 1.5 trillion (or 58% of the total benefits obtained by enterprises worldwide). A large portion of Pakistan’s digital exports can be attributed to Google’s advertising and app publication capabilities.

Local companies generated an estimated Rs. 249 billion in export benefits from Google products and solutions powered by artificial intelligence, accounting for a disproportionate share of the entire economic activity. Google products like as Search, Maps, Play, Drive, and YouTube contributed Rs. 1.3 trillion to household income in 2023, an increase of 526 percent compared to 2020, or 33% of the overall economic gains.

The products and solutions offered by Google are making a positive impact on the lives of Pakistanis in many ways. For example, YouTube provides entertainment alternatives, while Search and Gemini make it easier to find relevant information and enhance productivity. The research went on to say that several Pakistani companies have increased exports with the support of Google Ads and Google AdSense, which has made the country more competitive on the international market.

Role of YouTube in Pakistan’s Economic Growth

To a similar extent, YouTube has improved content creators’ capacity to monetize their work by connecting them with worldwide audiences and collaborators (55 percent of YouTube viewers are located outside of Pakistan). This has had far-reaching consequences for the environment.

AI and Google Workspace Fuel Pakistan’s Economic Growth

The use of Google Workspace for real-time collaboration has resulted in increased productivity and a 40-day annual time savings for Pakistani workers. This is due to factors such as reduced meeting times, online document sharing, and storage.

The breakthrough AI model Gemini (formerly Bard) helps people and organizations generate ideas, inspire creativity, and increase productivity; it is just one of many new products that Google is releasing at the moment. Thanks to Google Play, local mobile app developers have access to a worldwide audience, and now most of their money comes from users outside of their home country.

Through digital exports, Pakistan may greatly enhance its economic growth and generate high-quality job opportunities. Pakistani companies can boost their competitiveness and enter new global markets by training employees in digital skills and using AI-powered goods and services. In addition, this opens doors for Pakistanis to participate in the digital economy, which could lead to future wealth for everyone.

This report details Google’s ongoing efforts to support Pakistan’s economic growth by providing access to its AI-driven products and services for both individuals and companies. Google continues to back Pakistan’s efforts to digitally change through programs including free digital skills training and partnerships with public and commercial organisations.

The research further stated that Pakistan can become a major player in the digital economy by using its youthful and skilled workforce and adopting digital technologies. This would lead to both sustainable and inclusive growth for Pakistanis.
