Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s Quora account gets hacked

Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s is having a worse Monday than all of us. A group of hackers called OurMine were able to hack his Quora account and as a result his Twitter account as well. Both the accounts have since been reinstated.

OurMine is the same group who hacked Mark Zuckerberg’s Pinterest and Twitter accounts earlier this month using the passwords leaked in the massive LinkedIn Password Dump. The same group has been targeting other tech executives as well. They say their main aim is to expose security flaws and make sure people secure their online presence. While their technique may not sound trustworthy, it certainly has started up a conversation.

According to the OurMine team, they were able to hack into Sundar Pichai’s account due to a vulnerability in the Quora platform itself. So if you’re on Quora, now would be a good time to revise your password. Furthermore, hackers don’t necessarily need a gaping flaw in a website’s security to hack your account. They can just as easily pull passwords from your browsers. The very recent incident where ‘tens of thousands‘ of Twitter accounts were hacked was a trick pulled off by exploiting web browsers.

We suggest you update your passwords regularly and do not use the same password for all of your online accounts. That’s basically making the job of a hacker even easier.
