Google introduced Google Assitant last year with the launch of Android Nougat. The Assistant was first exclusive to Pixel devices but it, later on, was made available for other Android Nougat devices as well.
Now the Google Assistant has made its way to the Play Store and anyone can download it on his smartphone. The app works like a shortcut to launch the Google Assitant and is compatible only with devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above (Sorry Lolipop users). Your Google App must be up to date to use the Google Assitant on your phone.
Different companies now release their apps on Play Store to make the update process faster. This might also be the reason behind the Google Assitant to make its way to the Play Store. Google can now easily update it independently without updating the whole OS.
Here’s what the Google Assitant’s description says on the Play Store.
“The Google Assistant app provides another way to launch the Assistant that’s already available on your phone. It allows you to quickly access your Google Assistant with one tap. You can still access your Assistant by pressing and holding down your home button or by simply saying, ‘Ok Google.’”
You can use Google Assitant to perform different tasks like you can ask it about the weather, or cheapest flights and hotels in a specific area. You can ask it to perform different functions on your phone like playing music, playing a specific movie or getting a list of all the movies of your favorite actor or sending a message to someone. You can also use it to set reminders about anything.
You can download the Google Assitant from Play Store now.
