Google adds offline search to deal with poor internet connection

Google’s Android app now stores offline search queries and shows the results when users are online.

Many times people lose their search data as a result of poor internet connection such as while traveling or when they are in remote areas. Google blog reads,

“Whether you’re a commuter reading the news with a spotty network, a farmer looking up crop prices with no service in the fields, or just driving through a tunnel, all is not lost when your search is interrupted by a bad connection. Now on the Google app for Android, even if your search fails, Google will deliver your results as soon as a connection is available—so you can keep searching with a single tap.”

Mobile networks can also be spotty sometimes which means that even if you have an internet connection, search results still fail. With this change, search results will be saved as soon as you type and press enter. Next time when you are online, the results will be retrieved.

Users can now queue up their searches in Google app on Android even when they are offline. Google app will continue to work behind the scenes to detect whenever a connection is available and then it will display the results.

This will not impact the data charges or battery life so users don’t need to worry about that.

This feature is available for Android devices with the latest version of Google app installed.
