Donald Trump’s distasteful tweets have given rise to a crowdfunding campaign with an interesting motive.
Global Zero, an international movement that wants to eliminate nuclear weapons, has started a crowdfunding campaign on GoFundMe. The motive behind the campaign? To raise $1 billion, get controlling interest in Twitter, and delete Donald Trump’s personal account.
Global Zero feels that, apart from his jibes at people, his Twitter account is propagating hate and negative ideas. The campaign page reads:
“Donald Trump has done a lot of horrible things on Twitter. From emboldening white supremacists to promoting violence against journalists, his tweets damage the country and put people in harm’s way. But threatening actual nuclear war with North Korea takes it to a dangerous new level.”
Twitter has repeatedly turned down requests from users to enforce its own community standards and delete Donald Trump’s account. This campaign vows to take things into its own hands. Since Twitter is a publicly-traded company, if Global Zero is able to raise over $1 billion they can then buy enough stocks to become the single biggest shareholder in the company and “enforce its rules against violent threats, intimidation and hate speech — and shut down Trump for good.”

The campaign, which was started by an anti-nuclear activist Valerie Wilson on behalf of Global Zero, has raised $85,967 so far since being launched on August 16. Will the campaign be successful? If it goes viral and gets backing from celebrities, like Star Wars’ Mark Hamill, we just might see Trump getting kicked out of Twitter.
