Gmail built in add-ons are now officially available for everyone. Add-ons are introduced to simplify your workflow. With the new add-ons, you’ll be able to use services like Slack, Salesforce.com and Evernote all at one place.
The certain add-ons will be activated based on the messages you receive, thus helping you get things done faster. For example, the Asana extension turns the email into to do list and Trello extension lets you manage your teamwork within Gmail. Similarly, the ProsperWorks extension captures the customers’ information to use later and the Dialpad extention links a dialer to your Gmail which you can use to make calls. Similarly, Hire lets you add and manage candidates and upload resumes without leaving Gmail. There are a lot of other add ons including Streak, Smartsheet, RingCentral and more.
That’s just a start, developers are working hard to bring more and more extensions to Gmail. A DocuSign extension is in works for the people who play with PDF files a lot.
Interestingly, the add-ons work both on Android and web client and you just need to install it once and it will be available across all of your devices. Getting the add-ons is easy, just click on the Settings wheel and then click “Get add-ons”. You’ll be taken to the list where you can choose your favorite add-on.
Here’s what Google has to say about new add-ons:
“With Gmail add-ons, your inbox can contextually surface your go-to app based on messages you receive to help you get things done faster. Because add-ons work the same across web and Android, you only need to install them once to access them on all of your devices.”
Add-ons are not available for iOS right now but Google is working to make this feature available for Apple devices soon.
