Ghazi University students, faculty to receive smartphones with study curriculum and eBooks

A university based in Dera Ghazi Khan has announced its plans to give students and faculty smartphones in order to aid them in their studies and teaching.

Established in 2012 by the then Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Ghazi University is based in Dera Ghazi Khan and has a total of 5,500 students. In a welcome party on Saturday, Professor Muhammad Khalique Ahmed, the newly-appointed Vice Chancellor of Ghazi University, unveiled the university’s plans to give smartphones to the students as well as the faculty.

Along with this, the Vice Chancellor also inaugurated a new model class room equipped with cyber facilities and promised to upgrade the library to modern standards. With these initiatives, the VC aims to improve the university and bring it up to standards with the modern world. He also noted that he himself takes advantage of his iPhone to keep in contact with international academicians and PhD students.

The smartphones will come loaded with the university’s curriculum and the respective e-books, providing a cost-saving alternative to buying hard-copies of these books. They will also provide the students with a way to remain in contact with the faculty around the clock.

The Pakistani government has recently taken initiatives to introduce free laptop schemes, notably the PM’s National Laptop Scheme, but this is a first official move by a university to give out free smartphones to their students to aid them in their studies.
