Galaxy Note 9’s “bigger is better” program might not be that good

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9’s battery will not have fast charging support. Its battery is expected to have a 20% jump from its predecessor, the Note 8, without the addition of fast charging support.

Renowned industry insider and a trusted source, Ice Universe has made a series of Tweets which claim that the Note 9 will have a battery capacity of 4000 mAh. This is a 20% increase in capacity from the Note 8, whose battery capacity was 3300 mAh. However, despite the jump in capacity, Samsung might not introduce fast-charging support in the Note 9.

Ice Universe has been involved in a number of leaks which turned out to be true later on. He released images of the Galaxy S8 on the internet and he was also the first one to publicize pictures of the Galaxy Note 8 before its release.

In the Tweet, Ice Universe says, “The Samsung Note9’s battery is 4000mAh, but its charging specifications have not improved. Like the S7/S8/S9, the EP-TA200 charger has a maximum power of 10W. This is the slowest charging speed in the world except for iPhone. How long does 4000mAh take?”

Industry experts have said that the exclusion of fast charge support can be due to the fact that the Note 9’s battery is already larger than its predecessor. Meaning that users will get longer talk-times and on-screen time than before. Additionally, this might be an attempt at preventing the battery from overcharging or overheating as well.

The latter might be motivated by the Note 7 scandal, which saw overheating batteries exploding. The scandal forced Samsung to initiate a global recall (the biggest in the world) and to issue a global apology. The last thing Samsung needs is another scandal like this, especially considering how it’s planning to radicalize the industry with its upcoming foldable Galaxy X smartphone.
