On top of $2 billion, Ford to invest $195 million for a developing a manufacturing site.
Ford Motors is going to invest $195 million for the development of a high-tech technology and industrial center for automobile manufacturing in India.
The technology and business center will be used as a manufacturing hub to build and design cutting-edge industry products and mobility solutions from the automobile industry. The investments span over a period of next 5 years, and the Center will be completed by 2019 in Chennai.
The center will include testing stations, research centers and laboratories for developing and testing next-gen automobile technologies. The center will also provide business services for the automobile company. For building this center, Ford will be bringing in 3,000 new employees along with the 9,000 people which it will bringing in from other centers.
“India is not only a vibrant market for cars and new mobility ideas, it also is rich with talent, technical expertise and ingenuity,” said a company statement.
This Center at Chennai would be the second largest technology setup which Ford had ever established, not to count the automobile manufacturer’s home base at Dearborn, Michigan, United States. India already has had solid investments amounting to over $2 billion from Ford.
