Recent directives from Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif state that flood relief operations and funding will now be operated digitally. This would be done with the help of a digital flood dashboard that notifies the public about different metrics related to the supply and consumption of flood relief.
Announced in a closed meeting on Saturday, this digital flood dashboard is aimed at bringing transparency to flood relief operations. Made using the latest technology, the digital flood dashboard provides details in various ways. Alongside details of the goods being sent and received, the public will also get important relief measures on the dashboard.
The digital flood dashboard wasn’t the only important decision made in the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif in the meeting announced a thorough audit of the fund relief. The audit is to be performed by Accountant General Pakistan Revenue (AGPR), which is considered to be one of Pakistan’s most reputed audit firms.
Restoration of flood-affected areas was also a topic of discussion in the meeting. The PM called for urgent rehabilitation of roads, bridges and power supplies so that life could return back to normal in areas that are severely affected.
Finance and Revenue minister, Miftah Ismail announced that a total of Rs70 billion has been announced for the relief and rehabilitation of flood affectees. A further announcement of Rs50 billion was made and it was announced that each penny of relief fund that comes from abroad will be audited.
“Floods have caused over 33 million Pakistanis to be homeless, PM Shahbaz Sharif is working day and night for their early rehabilitation,” said Miftah Ismail while speaking to the media. “The prime minister would soon hold meetings with industrialists and business people,” he added.
