First builds of LineageOS, mod of the open source Cyanogen project, are now available for download. Currently only a handful devices by Google, Motorola and Samsung are available.
CyanogenMod was one of the most popular ROM available for Android devices for many years. It gained popularity due to it offering a streamlined and stock Android like experience to a wide number of devices.
However, its moment in the sun didn’t last long and it was killed off by Cyanogen Inc., its parent company, at the end of last year. Owing to its open source nature, a new fork of the project emerged soon after its demise — LineageOS.
Now first builds for LineageOS have started appearing in the download section of its official site.
At the time of writing, only a handful devices are listed in the download section. Most notable of them are Nexus 6p, Nexus 5x, Motorolla G4 and Samsung S3. LineageOS’s team has previously announced that they will support all the devices supported by CyanogenMod in the past. So this list is expected to grow gradually over the next few days.
In the meantime, you can visit the download section of LineageOS’s website to keep a tab on currently released ROMs. You can also take a look at the devices which they support by going to this link.
