Fibre Optic Cables Set To Be Installed In Three Sindh Districts

In recent news, Fibre Optic cables are set to be installed in three districts of Sindh due to a contract worth Rs. 2.1 billion is provided by the IT ministry to the Universal Service Fund (USF) and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL).

As a part of this project, the respective cables will be installed in Nausheroferoze, Shaheed Benazirabad, and the Khairpur districts of Sindh. Moreover, 101 towns and union councils will be connected through 709.5 km of optic fiber cable hence benefitting about 2.8 million in the respective areas.

This contract which was received by the USF was awarded to PTCL in order to provide smooth and uninterrupted internet connectivity in the respective districts.

The signing ceremony for this project was attended by President Dr. Arif Alvi, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Syed Amin Ul Haque, and Federal Secretary IT, Dr. Sohail Rajput. During the ceremony, Syed Amin Ul Haque stated the following:
“During the last 3 years, MOITT has worked on 9 projects worth PKR 8.48 billion entailing the provision of mobile broadband services and laid down fiber optical network in Sindh.”
