FIA arrests a man accused of harassing and blackmailing a woman online

The Cyber Crime Cell of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Lahore arrested a man on Tuesday from Faisalabad, who was involved in Cyber harassment and blackmailing cases on social media.

Muhammad Amir was accused of harassing and blackmailing a woman by using her inappropriate photos in exchange for sexual favors and money.

Federal Investigation Agency informed media that resident Sofia Atif filed a complaint against Amir who has been blackmailing and harassing her through social media for quite a while now. The plaintiff claimed that Amir has been constantly demanding inappropriate favors from her.

Amir is a resident of Faisalabad who was supposed to meet Sofia in a multinational fast food restaurant for receiving Rs. 1.5 million in exchange for providing all the data he possessed in his phone. Meanwhile, someone informed this to FIA, at the time, and the team of FIA raided at the place and arrested him, according to the sources.

According to the reports, FIA team also retrieved all the data from Amir. Afterwards, the case was filed against him and he is currently under investigation with regards to Cybercrime act.

The Cybercrime act was passed last by National Assembly after Government noticed a rapid growth of Cybercrime cases in Pakistan. According to the law, cyberstalking can lead to a fine of about PKR 1 million with three years in jail.

The first offender of the bill was arrested in KPK for blackmailing women in August last year, just weeks after the bill was passed.
