LAHORE: The streets of Punjab’s capital, Lahore, were filled with private college students protesting against the alleged rape of a fellow student by a security guard.
The father of the accused came forward in a video to explain what happened after the incident gained national attention and prompted a high-level investigation. In an interview with the media, he and his partner, the heroic ASP Shahrbano Naqvi of the Punjab Police, denied any involvement in the ongoing protests related to the alleged rape.
The man said that his daughter sustained a personal injury at home, which caused a back sprain that led to hospital. He was shocked by the protests and made it clear that they had given the police medical reports about their daughter’s health.
He asked college students to understand the trauma they had experienced as a result of exposing photographs of his daughter online.
Also appealing to the public, ASP Shahrbano Naqvi warned that misinformation might hurt families’ mental health. She promised that if anything like that happened to a girl, the police would take action and file a case.
