Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif reminds Israel on Twitter that Pakistan is a nuclear state too, after a fake news threatened to destroy Pakistan.
It’s not the first time fake news have touched off confrontation. Twitter and Facebook, both have been dealing with their share of fake news for some time now. But this time, it shows the harmful global impact of false news when two countries possessing nuclear weapons indulge into a feud.
The fake story appeared on AWD News site stating,
“Israeli Defense Minister: If Pakistan sends ground troops to Syria on any pretext, we will destroy this country with a nuclear attack”.
Pakistan Defence Minister responded to the apparent threat through a tweet reminding Israel that Pakistan is a nuclear state too.
Israel’s Ministry of Defence then cleared that the news was “totally false” and no such thing was said by Israel. AWD was identified as a fake news site by a fact-checking organization.
Pakistan became a nuclear power in 1998 after conducting the successful nuclear tests. Israel, on the other hand, possesses nuclear weapons but does not publicly state that it is a nuclear state.
Pakistan has not responded to the latest tweets yet.
