Facebook releases new features for online entrepreneurs and journalists

Facebook just released two interesting features specifically aimed at online entrepreneurs and journalists. The good news for online entrepreneurs is that Facebook business pages will be turned into online shops and journalists will now be able live broadcast videos to your NewsFeed.

In a news release, Facebook announced that they will be updating their Facebook Pages to cater to more mobile devices to help businesses build a mobile presence and communicate easily with customers. The update will make the pages closer to becoming online shops for businesses. Facebook has introduced this new update to make it easier for more than 45 million actives business pages to highlight their important information and reach their goals. The new Facebook page will also have a prominent call-to-action button on mobile and they are also testing new features like ‘Call Now’, ‘Send Message’ and ‘Contact Us’. There will also be a Shop section where retail businesses ca showcase their products and the Service section where they can feature their service offerings right at the top. The whole purpose of this update is to make people clearly state their services and also help users contact them easily.

Now, you might recall a few weeks ago Facebook opened their Mentions app for celebrities to live stream happenings onto their page. Then the feature was opened for all celebrities with Facebook verified pages. Something similar is happening again, but this time its for journalists. Like celebrities journalists will be able to live stream news, happenings or reporting onto their page for all their followers to see. To gain access to this feature your page and profile has to be verified by Facebook. So if you’re a journalist and would like to try out this feature, apply here.
