Facebook has continued the slow rollout of its “Facebook Reactions” feature, a new way to interact with the posts on the social network.
Placed alongside the “Like” button, Facebook Reactions are a row of emotions like love, laughing, shocked, crying and angry, all of which are represented by animated stickers so instead of just liking, a user could express his reaction to a particular post in a higher level of detail without actually commenting. It was introduced in only Ireland and Spain at launch, but Facebook has continued on a slow rollout of the Facebook Reactions and yesterday, Japan became the sixth country to get this feature.
After initially floating the idea of a Facebook Dislike button, Facebook has went ahead instead with the Facebook Reactions. The reactions to this feature have been mixed, with some welcoming the new way to express their feelings while others not so happy with the social network’s decision. The like button is an iconic part of Facebook, and has been since its birth, so it has been pretty shocking for most of the users to see the introduction of this new kind of expression, almost like a replacement for the like button. But for now, it seems like they will continue with the rollout.
Facebook is no stranger to making controversial decisions and with over 1.5 Billion users, it’s clear that not every decision the company makes can please all its users. However, this slow rollout is almost like a hint of the company’s intentions to tread carefully around its precious Like button.
