Facebook is saying Goodbye to fake videos

It turns out that social media giant Facebook has finally decided to kill fake videos from its platform. The company has updated its algorithm of News Feed which will limit the videos that feature “fake video play buttons embedded in their imagery or videos of only a static image”. Moreover, publishers who trick and mislead people into clicking on a link which contains malicious videos or content will also be dealt with as they are also earning revenue from it, damaging the revenue of those publishers who share or publish good content.

Furthermore, spam publishers who try to trick people into clicking links to low-quality websites are also a big problem which the company is facing right now. That is why Facebook has planned to downgrade stories and content that features fake video button and is actually redirecting people to low quality sites.

This new update is expansion of the policy of the company, which it announced few months back. Facebook in the month of May said that the company is updating its algorithm with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) technology so that it keeps its users away from low-quality websites, part of an effort and to fight spam and misinformation.

The company is planning to push this update across the globe in coming weeks.

The blog post of the company reads,

“During the coming weeks we will begin demoting stories that feature fake video play buttons and static images disguised as videos in News Feed.”

People want to see accurate information on Facebook, and so do we” the company also asserted.
