Facebook is reportedly acquiring a big cybersecurity firm to avoid further hacks

Facebook is reportedly buying a ‘major’ cybersecurity firm to improve on its security as issues and controversies keep the company in woe.

Reports are in that the social media giant is acquiring a big cybersecurity firm to improve its security and enhance data protection measures. The Information reported that Facebook has approached several big cybersecurity firms with acquisition offers and is awaiting further developments. Once Facebook reaches an agreement with any of said firms, Facebook would be able to use the cybersecurity-related expertise of that company to secure its existing services. When approached by media for a comment, Facebook declined to quote anything.

Although it hasn’t been brought to light that exactly what companies are in focus but it’s quite possible that a cybersecurity company focusing on website and app-related services is being targeted, a company which can seamlessly incorporate itself into the existing framework as operated by Facebook.

Facebook sped up its efforts to counter the possible vulnerabilities and breaches that may beset its growth in the future. Quite recently too, there have been a lot of backlash regarding the company’s security measures and data safeguards. Earlier this year, Cambridge Analytica scandal was brought to light yearning a lot of criticism to Facebook and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. Mark was even asked to appear before the US parliament and answer to the concerns.

Further down the road, another hack attack was highlighted, initially thought to affect as much as 50 million users. Later, upon investigation, Facebook found out that hackers stole the personal information of 29 million users, including their phone numbers and email addresses.
