Last month we reported at TechJuice that Facebook is planning to launch original shows on its platform to earn more revenue and to attract content producers. Today, the company has launched a Watch tab for original shows.
Facebook has partnered with various content producing companies to produce original content which users will soon be able to access on the Watch tab. According to the deal between Facebook and content producing companies, Facebook will get 45 percent revenue from these shows and media companies will get 55 percent.
The Watch tab will become personalized to your watch interest over time. The shows will consist of 10 to 15 minutes clips. However, the company is planning to enhance the time limit of the shows in the near future. Users will also be able to access categories such as “Most Talked About,” “What’s Making People Laugh”, and “Shows Your Friends Are Watching.” Moreover, the content producers can also share their shows in News Feed so that users can easily find and access the shows.
This new feature will be rolling out for a small group of people in the US tomorrow while the rest of the world will have to patiently wait. The new updates will roll out for Android, iOS, mobile, desktop and Facebook’s TV apps.
Mark Zuckerberg said in a post,
“Today we’re launching the Watch tab in Facebook — a place where you can discover shows your friends are watching and follow your favorite shows and creators so you don’t miss any episodes. You’ll be able to chat and connect with people during an episode, and join groups with people who like the same shows afterward to build community.”
“We hope Watch will be home to a wide range of shows — from reality to comedy to live sports. Some will be made by professional creators, and others from regular people in our community. We’re starting to roll out the Watch tab to a limited number of people in the US, and the plan is to bring it to more people soon. I hope you enjoy!”
