Facebook delegate to visit Pakistan over blasphemous content issue

The interior ministry has today announced that a Facebook delegation would visit Pakistan to resolve the blasphemous content matter amicably.

Social media giant Facebook has nominated a focal person to lead the discussions and be the point of contact with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. Just earlier today at a press conference, Chaudhry Nisar said that the government will take strict actions against the people behind producing blasphemous content.

On the other side, Federal Investigation Agency has also contacted Interpol and Facebook to identify the social media pages and accounts containing blasphemous contents that violate international laws. Just last week, civil society also filed a petition for temporarily shutdown of Facebook in Pakistan till the questionable content is not removed.

A high-level meeting, in this regard, was chaired by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali to review ongoing investigations. A statement said that about 11 people involved in sharing objectionable material online have been identified and were being questioned by the Interior Ministry.

It should be noted here at Facebook and YouTube has been blocked previously in Pakistan for carrying insensitive and blasphemous content.
