Facebook continues its “streak” to copy Snapchat and introduced the Snapchat’s streak feature in its Messenger as well. Facebook is copying Snapchat for a long time and it looks like Snapchat is unable to do anything about it.
For those of you who are not aware of the streak feature, these are the stickers which you get when you and your friend snap each other for more than 3 consecutive days. So, the streak has no major purpose it just motivates you to snap your friend every day and tells you that you guys are great friends. The streak does not keep going if only one of you is sending messages to others, both of you have to send messages to each other for the streak to continue. A number will also appear in front of your chat which will show the number of days you’ve texted each other. A fire emoji will also appear if your streak is significant enough. And the streak feature only works between individuals and not in groups.
Some Facebook Messenger users are reporting that they are seeing a feature just like the Snapchat streaks. When you send a message to your friend, the Messenger asks you to “keep your streak going”. Here’s a tweet from a user who got the feature early.
Snapchat uses one icon for the streaks but some users are reporting that Messenger is using 2 icons instead of one and it is just confusing right now.
Just like Snapchat, Messenger will also show you the consecutive number of days you and your friends have been texting each other. Here’s what a Facebook spokesperson told Mashable about the new feature.
“For example, a lightning bolt may appear next to the name of a person you’ve messaged with for at least three days in a row, and a counter will indicate how many consecutive days you’ve been chatting. We’re interested to see if people enjoy this insight, but we don’t have any additional information to share at this time.”
This feature only has one purpose, to make the Messenger users open the app every day and text someone. To make sure that you get the feature as soon as possible, make sure to update your app from Play Store for Android devices or App Store for iOS devices.
