Facebook and Instagram will soon roll out time management feature to tell users how much time they are spending on the app in one day. As the social media apps are always blamed for smartphone addiction, Facebook is trying to help users keep a track of the time they are spending on Facebook and Facebook-owned app, Instagram.

Facebook is launching a dashboard that informs users of how many minutes( or hours) users are active on its apps and will remind users if they spend more time on the apps than they used to. The feature will be rolled out in the coming week.

Facebook announced a series of features on Wednesday in company’s official blog post. The blog post further stated,

“We developed these tools based on collaboration and inspiration from leading mental health experts and organizations, academics, our own extensive research and feedback from our community. We want the time people spend on Facebook and Instagram to be intentional, positive and inspiring.”

The same feature is rolling out for Instagram.

Here’s how you can use the time tracking feature on Instagram:

  • Open your settings
  • Scroll down to the new option “Your activity”
  • Click on it and a dashboard will be displayed where you can see how much time you are spending on the app each day.

You can set a daily reminder that will notify you when you have been using the app for a specific time period in a day.
And you can choose to temporarily mute notifications from the app for up to eight hours.

Here’s how you can use the time to track feature on Facebook

  • Click on the three horizontal lines on the top right of the home screen
  • Now scroll down and click on “settings and privacy”
  • Now click on “Your Time on Facebook”

You will now be displayed to a dashboard that gives information of the time you spend on the app
