Facebook adds fundraiser tools for non-profit organizations

Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, just announced in a recent status update that the social network has launched a tool for non-profit organizations. It is a fundraiser tool, just like Kickstarter and IndieGogo, which will help non-profit organizations raise funds directly from Facebook platform.

IndieGogo, Kickstarter and GoFundMe websites have been the go-to platforms for both profit and non-profit organizations. But, with the recent development at Facebook’s end, a lot of organizations will prefer Facebook’s built-in platform for fundraising.

Facebook enjoys a billion user community and adding a fundraising tool directly at the platform makes a lot of sense. Previously, organizations preffered to start the campaigns at different platforms outside Facebook and then redirect the followers from Facebook to the fundraising website. Now, the whole process is a lot simpler.

According to Facebook,

“To help nonprofits increase donations, we’re improving our Donate button and making it available on Pages and posts. Adding a Donate button to a Page will give a nonprofit a consistent place to collect donations, even as they update their Page’s content. Including a Donate button on a post will give people an easy way to donate directly from News Feed.”

Currently, this tool is in the testing phase and Facebook has partnered up with 37 non-profit organizations and also plans to expand this tool to other US-based 501c3 non-profit organizations as well. There is no word on whether this tool will be available outside US soon or not.

Although this update will be taken positively among the users but this might also mean death of many crowd-funding platforms focussed on the non-profit sector.
