FaceApp is a face transformation app which uses neural network technology to automatically develop highly realistic transformations of faces in photographs. The app was launched in 2017, so it’s not new, but it’s going viral all over again because of a new feature which shows what you will look like as you age.
The reason why the app is getting viral again is that it has become more realistic now. The free version of the app offers some limited options of filters, but the one that ages you is available for free. You also have other options which you can apply to change your face, including changing your normal face into a smiling one, changing your hair color and also allows you to swap genders. You can also transform your picture to your younger self, but the younger filters are not that realistic.

In order to transform your face, you can either take a photo through the app’s camera functionality or can choose one from your pre-existing photos present in your gallery. However, for some security reasons, beware of any app that asks permission to gain access into your personal gallery. FaceApp like other apps has added a privacy page with detail about how they utilize user content. The app on that page has admitted that they, “may share User Content and your information with businesses that are legally part of the same group of companies that FaceApp is”.
It further states, “We also may share your information as well as information from tools like cookies, log files, and device identifiers and location data, with third-party organizations that help us provide the Service to you”.
This is normal for many apps but users must ensure their privacy while using this app or any app asking permission to gain access to personal data. In the meantime, if you want to download this app it is available on both Apple and Android store.
