Even after 8 months of release, Google Oreo runs only on 5% of devices

Google has released its updated Android version distribution table and things doesn’t seem to be in order for Android Oreo.

Google’s version of Android 8.0 Oreo, was released in August last year. Although more than 8 months have already passed, the said Android version hasn’t still been able to capture significant share among Android phones currently being used by users.

Android Oreo (the versions 8.0 and 8.1 combined) make up just 4.6% of the total market share. The version 8.0 saw a jump of 3.3%, from 0.8% in February to 4.1 in April. Android Oreo 8.1, on the other hand, wasn’t able to considerably grow its share and the value has just rose from 0.3% to 0.5% in two months.

As far as the most widely-used Android versions are concerned, Android Nougat was found running on 30.8% of smartphones followed by Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is running on 26% of the total Android smartphone. Interestingly, Android Marshmallow, notably the version 5.1, still possesses a significant market share with a total percentage standing at 22.9%. Among the other Android versions, KitKat was found running on 10.5% of devices and Jelly Bean on 4.5% of devices. Older Android versions, Android Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread had meager market proportions of 0.4% and 0.3% respectively.

Apart from the fact that Google’s most recent Android version hasn’t been able to make it to many phones, the next version of Android, Android P is already in works. Right now, Android 9.0 or Android P is in its development stages and the expert users can download its developer’s preview manually.
