Ericsson Innovation Awards 2015: The Tent School System recognized on international level

The Tent School System was rewarded with a special award at Ericsson Innovation Awards (EIA) 2015 held yesterday at Ericsson Studios, Sweden. EIA is an open competition for students from all over the world to convert a problem-solving idea into a market fit innovation. This year, 270 teams from 43 countries entered the competition and four teams from Germany, India, Ukraine and USA made to the final round.

The Tent School System (TSS) achieved Ericsson’s Technology for Good award along with a prize of EUR 3000 in recognition of their efforts to impart education to slum children who do not even have basic necessities of life. The TSS team including team leader Zulqarnain Jameel and Maryam Tanveer, Mahoor Obaid and Yasir Mustafa were not able to attend the event, but a video message from them was played at the event.

Finally we got some international Recognition. Thanks to Ericcson Awards for choosing Tent School System.

TechJuice conducted an interview of Zulqarnain Jameel a few months back. He told us that his future milestone and vision for TSS was to eradicate illiteracy from Pakistan by 2020. He also made to our list of 25 high achievers under 25 years of age earlier this year. Zulqarnain took a bold decision when he quit his job at Telenor to teach slum children with the technology-based education system. His teaching methodology has proven to be very effective as his students surpassed first grade curriculum in a span of two months.

Recently, TSS also conducted a successful crowdfunding campaign on HelpingB which along with the Ericsson prize money will solve much of the funding problems for the startup.

The Tent School System is looking for volunteers who are passionate and can spare a few hours for the cause. Interested people can contact them at their Facebook page.
