Empower Pakistan, a non-profit organization for self-employment through digital tools, organized a Digital Community Meetup at Bacha Khan University yesterday to help the students realize their potential and earn a living in the digital space. This was first of the many yet-to-happen events by Empower Pakistan with the support of World Bank Group.
The discussion revolved around various ways through which students can learn, and earn on the internet.
Bacha Khan University is located in one of the remotest locations of KPK region. The same university was recently attacked by terrorists, the students at the university have gone through tough times. In such a situation, it is important for students to deflect their mind from terror to something which can be of mutual benefit to them and the country — Empower Pakistan, with the same mindset, organized the event in the university.
Keeping in mind the problems prevalent among youth in KP specially Bacha Khan University. The talks and discussions were focussed on how the digital world offers various possibilities to each and every individual who has the internet. It can be used to learn skills, monetize them and improve the living standards.
In the session, CEO of Empower Pakistan, Syed Sajid Shah gave insight on the impact of the internet. He shared examples of people from various villages who managed the education of their siblings only because they started to make enough money from the internet. Not only this, but their lifestyles changed dramatically and they did well for the improvement of not only themselves but their families too.
Saad Hamid, Chief of Community of Empower Pakistan, said,
“Three things are crucial for proper digital empowerment. These things are; access, affordability, and awareness.”
He stressed that everybody has access and affordability but very limited people have awareness. Through their sessions, they are hoping to increase the level of awareness among students.
Empower Pakistan, with the success of their maiden event of this season, is hoping to visit more locations and pave way for digital empowerment in the region of KPK. In addition to community meetups, the organization will also be organizing learn to earn workshops to help students earn through digital means.
