Elon Musk says that he wants to build the next particle collider for CERN with considerably lower financial resources.
The European Organization for Nuclear Research recently announced that it would be building a massive new particle accelerator by the name of “Future Circular Collider” to replace the existing Large Hadron Collider (LHC) from Switzerland. The aging LHC is currently closed down because of some of the scheduled upgrades to its infrastructure and is expected to go out of date in coming few years.
Taking to Twitter, Elon Musk, the CEO of ‘The Boring Company’, mentioned that he was in discussions with the CERN Director over digging the tunnel to be needed in the new hadron collider. Elon Musk further stated that he could save “several billion” in euros to the research center.
The upcoming Future Circular Collider would be four times the size of LHC and will cost around €24 billion ($27.2 billion). About €5 billion of this cost would go towards the tunneling. Considering the proposition by Elon Musk, we can expect that the amount saved in tunneling could be significant.

Whether ‘The Boring Company’ will be able to live up to this expectation is another question as the company hasn’t yet been able to complete any major public project. The development of FCC project, however, would take a while to start giving some time for preparation to The Boring Company.
Elon Musk had launched an under-land transportation infrastructure development firm by the name of “The Boring Company”, back in 2016. The infrastructure which is built up by “The Boring Company” employs state-of-the-art technologies and builds them more efficiently, adding more value to the project and cutting its costs.
