E-Auction for Personalized Number Plates Launched in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched an innovative e-auction system, allowing residents to register their vehicles and place bids for their desired number plates via a dedicated app and web platform.

With registration available until December 31, 2024, participants have plenty of time to choose the vehicle numbers that best suit their needs.

This e-auction platform was created by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department to facilitate the bidding procedure for vehicle and motorbike license plates. Within the app, users can also see the specifics of winning auctions.

Chairman of the PITB Faisal Yousaf praised the system’s accessibility and ease of use, saying that anyone may sign up for an account and place bids on specific vehicle numbers through the e-auction app. A new policy prohibiting the use of illegal automobiles by government personnel was implemented earlier today by Pakistan Customs in an effort to minimize misuse of authority.

Customs Imposes Restrictions on Smuggled Vehicle Use

It is the policy’s goal to stop customs officers from using the thousands of cars they hold for personal gain.

The government has canceled the No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for all automobiles used by officials and placed restrictions on the usage of modified vehicles that have been smuggled into government departments.

According to authorities, the provincial customs intelligence branch is limited to utilizing no more than ten vehicles.

Since Pakistan Customs officials are increasingly making use of smuggled tempered vehicles—they currently have thousands of vehicles in their possession—the policy was instituted to prevent abuse of authority.

The new regulation states that offices in Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta, and Peshawar can use up to 10 vehicles, while offices in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar can use up to 12.
