Due to a very strange and weird bug, the Facebook messenger has started notifying its users of old, and potentially disturbing, messages.
No one really likes a blast from the past, right? Especially when it means being forced to read old and forgotten conversations. Well, the Facebook messenger has just started doing that with its users in a very strange bug to the popular social media platform. A number of users on Twitter have pointed out that Messenger has started sending them notifications about many years old conversations, in some extreme cases, forcing users to relive painful memories.
The issue was first raised by a few users on Twitter, and it was later confirmed by Facebook itself who is currently in the process of resolving this problem. A Facebook representative told The Verge:
“Some people are seeing older messages on Facebook.com. We are aware of the issue and are actively working to resolve it in as soon as possible, we apologize for the inconvenience.”
Users were rightly disturbed after getting notifications about old conversations, with some of them taking to Twitter to raise their concerns.
I am not sure what is happening with Facebook and old messages popping up as new ones, but it gets really ridiculous being confronted with some of the chats from couple of years ago.

One user was particularly disturbed by the notifications as they brought up messages from the day his partner passed away.
Thank you @facebook for sending me notifications of messages sent over a year old. Many were from the day my partner, Dean, passed away & now I’ve spent my evening in fear of what else I’m going to see.

Facebook has been in the middle of a lot of different controversies related to data protection over the past few months, and this latest bug doesn’t do much in the way of improving the social media giant’s reputation among its users.
