Donald Trump, business tycoon and the Republican presidential candidate for the United States, has called for a boycott of all Apple products on account of the company’s refusal to help the FBI in creating a security backdoor.
Also one of the most talked about man on the internet, Trump is known for making controversial and ambiguous statements and now, he has stepped in to make his own point about the highly crucial tussle between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and one of the most valuable brands on Earth, Apple. He made the news recently for saying that “To think that Apple won’t allow us to get into her cellphone? Who do they think they are?” and following it up, he has called out for a boycott of all Apple products.
“Boycott Apple until such time as they give that information,” said Trump in a crowded room of supporters during a town hall-style event a day before the South Carolina GOP primary. “Apple ought to give the security for that phone, OK. What I think you ought to do is boycott Apple until such a time as they give that security number. How do you like that? I just thought of it. Boycott Apple.”
Not leading by example, Mr.Trump’s Twitter account sent out a tweet moments later about a Fox News poll… using an iPhone. Realizing his mistake, another tweet was sent out a while later about his smartphone choices,
The American secret agency, FBI, recently obtained a court order to compell Apple to create a backdoor vulnerability for its iPhone operating system- specifically for an iPhone 5C that was used by the San Bernadino shooter, Rizwan Farook. In response, the CEO of Apple Tim Cooks published a letter saying that such a move would compromise all their efforts to keep their customers’ data secure and their privacy intact. Since then, a lot of tech giants like Google and even Facebook have stepped in to support Apple’s decision, giving birth to a massive debate on user privacy around the globe.
