WhatsApp caused panic among its users when it decided to change the read receipt notification which added blue ticks as an indication that received message has been read. This update led to social media trends, sarcastic statuses, comments and hilarious memes. However, WhatsApp never intended to be a leading cause of divorce and also “He didn’t read my message” does not make a convincing argument in court.
There is a good news for all the Android users out there. The privacy settings in the latest version (V 2.11.44) of WhatsApp has now an option available to disable the read receipt notification. Once you have checked the option, your receipts will not be able to know whether you have read the message or not and this happens both ways. However, you cannot hide forever as this new settings will not affect group chats.
This service is available through WhatsApp website for now and soon to be expected to come to Play Store. It seems likely that the update will be rolled out to BlackBerry, iOS and Windows phone shortly afterwards.
