An official statement from the Directorate of Passport and Immigration on Saturday denied all recent news stories about higher passport fees and made it clear that the fees were last changed on March 7th.
The directorate has denied all of these allegations, calling them “baseless.” They further stressed that the current rates for issuing passports are still in effect.
Passport type | Processing type | Fee (5 years) |
36-Page Passport | Ordinary Processing | Rs 4,500 |
Urgent Processing | Rs 7,500
Fast-Track Service | Rs 12,500
72-Page Passport | Standard Processing | Rs 8,200 |
Urgent Processing | Rs 13,500
Fast-Track Service | Rs 18,500 |
In addition, if a passport is misplaced, the cost to reissue it is Rs9,000 for a 36-page passport, and any subsequent losses will incur double that amount.
Additionally, the representative emphasized that people should not believe any of the false reports and confirmed that new passport fees apply to various document types, including e-passports and machine-readable passports (MRPs), with different prices depending on the number of pages and the requested service.
Some news outlets have reported recently that the federal government has allegedly published a new cost structure with significant changes for MRPs and e-passports.
According to the Directorate of Passport and Immigration, the current passport fee schedule is still in place and has not been changed yet.
