Dell has taken veils off of an XPS 13 convertible 2-in-1 variant. The notebook was announced at CES 2017 held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The latest XPS 13 works both as a traditional laptop and a convertible tablet. The screen is attached to the keyboard with two metallic hinges which allow the device to be propped at any angle, even a complete 360 degree flip. Dell claims that the hinges can be opened and closed up to 20,000 times.
XPS 13 supports the iconic “Infinity Edge” display which extends from edge to edge and makes the laptop appear nearly bezel-less. It comes in FullHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) and QuadHD (3200 x 1800 pixels) variants. Other variants include 7th generation Intel Core i5 or i7 processors and fit up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB SSD storage. The device is also completely fanless. It weighs 2.7 pounds and is only 13.3 mm tall.
The convertible features 2 USB C ports, one of which is a thunderbolt compliant port. The charger plugs in one of the ports. There are no full sized USB ports available in XPS 13 2-in-1 variant. The Verge managed to get their hands on an early unit and uploaded a first look of the convertible:
The 2-in-1 notebook will start at $999 for a FullHD screen, 1.2 GHz core i5 7Y54, 4 GB RAM and 128 GB SSD storage and will go up to $2,049 for a QuadHD screen, 1.3 GHz core i7 7Y75, 16 GB RAM and 1 TB PCIe SSD storage.
