Daraz.pk has become Pakistan’s leading online shopping website with the expansion of it’s online store to other countries such as Bangladesh, Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Cameron. Daraz.pk has gained large customer base both locally and internationally which is why they have launched an android application to extend their reach to wide range of customers. For now, the android application is just available in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
TechJuice tested out the online shopping application both on mobile and tablet device. We have to say that daraz.pk has took care of making the application adaptable for both screen sizes. The application has a user-friendly interface with swiping as primary navigation option for different categories. The e-store has currently over 1,000 brands listed on the mobile application.
According to daraz.pk, “Users can check out flash sales and receive push notifications on new arrivals as well as choose from multiple payment methods such as online payment and cash-on-delivery.” However, when we placed an order through the mobile application, it only provided us with flat rate shipping option for Credit or Debit card i.e. Master, Visa and Maestro.
Recently, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) enabled Daraz.pk to accept credit and debit cards through an HBL initiated service mPOS (Mobile POS). This service is said to replace the “cash-on-delivery” with a more safe and secure payment method, “card-on-delivery”. It was not clearly mentioned whether “cash-on-delivery” service will be completely replaced or not but for now, the mobile app has only credit or debit card option available.
Daraz.pk’s co-founder Farees Shah said on the launch of the application,
“Mobile is obviously a key driver of e-commerce growth in Pakistan and we are extremely excited at launching our state of the art and user-friendly mobile app. With the rollout of 3G/4G technology in Pakistan we believe a large segment of the population which wasn’t previously online from their laptops or desktops will now be online via their phones and we want to be there for them to kick start their online shopping journey.”
Furthermore, Daraz.pk app has coupled with popular smartphones and affordable mobile internet packages to capture a massive audience throughout the country. As we all know that Pakistan currently has around 30 million internet users and this figure is expected to go up to at least 100 million users in the next couple of months. Mobile commerce can help Daraz.pk further expand its market share and reiterate its position as a monopoly in the online shopping sphere.
