Customs releases list of phones and their prices for calculating duty

Customs has released a list of phones and their corresponding prices, according to which the duty will be calculated if anyone wishes to bring a phone into Pakistan.

The list, covering 186 phones released between 2016 and 2018, lists the price of phones in US dollars, according to which duty will have to paid if anyone wishes to bring that phone in Pakistan. The list contains nearly all popular brands, with the most notable exception being Google Pixel phones.

The priciest phone, according to this Customs list, is the Apple XS Max 512 GB, whose price is mentioned as $1449. This value will be used to calculate the regulatory duty if someone is bringing this phone insider Pakistan. Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary confirmed that there will be as much as 38 percent duty on expensive phones, while cheaper phones will have negligible duties.

Federal Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar confirmed that there won’t be a need for paying duty on a phone if it is in the country for less than 30 days. Overseas Pakistanis can also bring their personal phone to the country without any need of paying regulatory taxes. However, any additional phones that they will be carrying will need to be cleared from the Customs first.
