Customs officials at Jinnah International Airport Karachi in a recent operation have stopped an attempt to smuggle mobile phones and other smartphone accessories worth Rs. 3.5 million, as reported by local media outlets.
According to the details, Customs officials at Karachi airport noticed a man who brought excessive baggage along with him while returning from Sharjah. Upon interrogation, Customs officials recovered around 239 mobile phones and other smartphone accessories from him.
Besides the smartphones, the smuggler also had batteries, covers and other items in his luggage. The suspicious person was trying to smuggle this technology equipment from UAE to Pakistan. The total worth of these goods is said to be around Rs. 3.5 million.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation in the same day, Customs officials also recovered 10 tolas of gold from a passenger who was trying to smuggle gold to Bangladesh via Bangkok.
Customs department has been playing a major role to stop smuggling in the country especially when it comes to supporting PTA in its campaign of registering un-registered and smuggled mobile phones across the country. Earlier this month, Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle mobile phones and arrested a person at the new Islamabad International Airport who was trying to smuggle mobile phones from the United Kingdom (UK) into the country.
