The Customs officials have arrested a man at the new Islamabad International Airport who was trying to smuggle mobile phones from the United Kingdom (UK) into the country.

The officials from the customs said that a man named Shafiq who belongs to Dina, Jhelum was stopped at the airport due to suspicion, and was asked to reveal his belongings, when the officials were doing clearance of a private flight. After the inspection, the customs found around 150 mobile phones of various brands in his bag which he was trying to smuggle.

Farheen Zehra who is the Assistant Collector Customs said that the authorities have seized all the cell phones and initiated the investigation against the culprit.

Apart from mobile phones smuggling, Islamabad airport security previously caught two passengers traveling to Saudi Arabia for Umrah who were carrying drugs with them. The two passengers, an aunt, and her nephew were trying to smuggle one kilogram of crystal meth (methamphetamine), commonly known as ICE into the kingdom.

Amina Bibi and her nephew Jaffar Ali who originally belong to Swabi and Buner were traveling to Saudi Arabia when the embroidered dresses in the ladies bag raised suspicion during the scanning process.

When the authorities inspected the luggage, they found 980 grams of crystal meth in it, which are worth millions in the international market. The security team seized the bag and arrested both individuals.
