In order to accelerate Pakistan’s inoculation of the vaccine, Cuba offered Pakistan the opportunity to establish a center for vaccine production. This would allow the country to use the facility for both domestic and export-related purposes.
This was due to the fact that Pakistan passed a major milestone in its nationwide vaccination campaign especially with the fourth wave of COVID-19 incoming the concept of a facility could come in handy.
Cuban Ambassador Zener Javier Caro Gonzalez highlighted the proposal in a meeting with the Minister of Science and Technology Shibli Faraz. Moreover, Cuba’s health regulator, the Autoridad Reguladora de Mdeicamentos (CECMED), gave the go-ahead on Friday to disperse the homegrown Abdala vaccine which is said to have 92% efficiency at preventing the Coronavirus after three doses.
This makes another addition to the list of vaccines Pakistan can use apart from the bulk supply of other vaccines such as Sinopharm, CanSino, SinoVac, Pfizer, etc.
As of now, more than 20 million vaccine doses have been administered across numerous cities and villages in the country which further includes 4 million doses of vaccine given to people over the age of 18.
