CPEC, a joint venture of Pakistan and China that aims to facilitate and expand trade in the region has recently shown landslide development as the government claimed that the project has already created over 30,000 jobs for Pakistani engineers and workers.
Keeping in view these jobs, it is expected that CPEC would become game changer not only for China but for Pakistan as well.
According to the government, “Out of the total 38,000 jobs, under early harvest projects of the CPEC, around 8,000 or less than 25 percent were consumed by Chinese workers. Energy projects are major employment contributor where 16,000 Pakistanis were hired as laborers or engineers”.
The government’s execution of two more energy projects named as Sukki Kinari and Karot will create around 6,000 more jobs in the country. The official statement of the government reads, “A huge number of Pakistani civil and electrical engineers could grab this opportunity where hydro power projects are under execution”.
Apart from the energy sector, the infrastructure sector till now has created as much as 13,000 jobs for the countrymen.
Gwadar Eastbay Expressway project has also been initiated in Gwadar. The expressway would be an 18.981 km long 4-lane expressway. This is also expected to create more jobs.
Applied Economics Research Center has assessed that the super venture is relied upon creating more than 700,000 jobs between 2015 and 2030 in the country.
Furthermore, the evaluation of the planning commission demonstrate that the figure may go significantly higher to around 800,000 jobs in next 15 years.
The federal government is also planning on establishing about 29 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in four provinces under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
