Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, during her official visit to China, announced a collaboration with Huawei Technologies in Shanghai’s Longgang District aimed at transforming Lahore into Pakistan’s first advanced smart city.
During the meeting, she invited Huawei to consider investing in Pakistan, highlighting the significance of Punjab. She further committed to backing the establishment of assembly and manufacturing facilities in the province, alongside the launch of Huawei retail outlets and after-sales service centers across Punjab.
The CM met with Huawei’s President of Government Affairs, Wang Chengdong, to discuss plans to modernise Lahore as a digital metropolis. She also invited him to visit Lahore. The discussions ranged from e-commerce to ecosystem creation and the digitalization of health and education sectors.
Mr. Wang Chengdong provided an overview to the CM and her delegation regarding Huawei’s endeavors in Pakistan, with a focus on Punjab, and conveyed the latest developments on current initiatives.
Maryam Nawaz conveyed her enthusiasm for Huawei’s initiatives in the health and education sectors, while also emphasising the ongoing Safe City projects in Punjab. She highlighted that the collaboration with Huawei would realize the vision of “Digital Punjab.”
“We want to leverage Huawei’s expertise in telecommunications, electronics, and digitalization,” said the CM, adding that the province’s first AI university would also benefit from Huawei’s professional skills.
She also urged for Huawei’s assistance in enhancing skills and conducting IT research at the Nawaz Sharif IT City, to introduce Punjab’s youth to advanced digital technologies. She additionally pursued Huawei’s support in ecosystem development, emphasizing the successful Safe City initiative in Lahore, created in partnership with Huawei.
The Chief Minister visited several facilities of Huawei Technologies, including the manufacturing plant, and engaged in discussions about potential collaboration with company representatives.
