Ceasefire between Apple and Nokia

Nokia and the tech giant Apple were in a dispute recently over patents, however the companies have reconciled by signing new agreements which are in the pipeline.

Old mate Nokia said that they would be receiving extra payments and revenue from Apple. While Apple would get network infrastructure product from Nokia. Moreover, Apple would reinstall Nokia’s digital health product in its stores, which was removed last year when Nokia sued Apple for patent dereliction.

“This is a meaningful agreement between Nokia and Apple,” said Maria Varsellona, Chief Legal Officer at Nokia, responsible for Nokia’s patent licensing business. “It moves our relationship with Apple from being adversaries in court to business partners working for the benefit of our customers.”

This agreement will strengthen our collaboration,” said Basil Alwan, President of Nokia’s IP/Optical Networks business. “We look forward to supporting Apple.” he further added.

This is not the first time that the companies engaged in a legal battle and then resolved the matter. Apple and Nokia has a similar history from 2009 when after two years of legal spat, the companies announced ceasefire in 2011 and signed new agreements.

The companies have agreed to new terms. The press release from Apple’s newsroom in this regard reads,

We are pleased with this resolution of our dispute and we look forward to expanding our business relationship with Nokia,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer.

Moreover, Apple is also involved in a legal spat with Qualcomm, a Chipmaking company, over licensing fee. In a recent move, Qualcomm even sued companies associated with Apple.

Last year, Apple was sued by the US citizen for its website design.
