Would you like to have your iPhone connected to your car? well yes. Apple is all set to make your driving experience smarter by taking the lead in the Smart Cars race.
Apple launched its first in-car operating system this monday at Geneva Motor show in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari and Volvo. The ‘CarPlay’ connects the iPhone to the car’s smart screen and not only lets you use Maps, videos and music but also brings access to Siri so that you can make calls and send messages on the go.
Apple Inc. is also said to be in talks with Honda, Ford, Jaguar, BMW, Chevrolet, Toyota and some other big names in the automotive industry to integrate the iOS software in their new Products.
“Control with a word. A touch.Or a twist.” is the CarPlay’s tagline explaining quite well that the system works not only on hand-free mode but on eyes-free mode as well. The company describes it as “smarter and safer” way to use your phone in the car. CarPlay will be available to iOS users via a free iOS 7 update but of course you need a compatible car to use it.
This is the first time that the Company has launched its software in devices other than its own brand. How efficient and successful this new iOS integration in the cars turns out, is yet to be seen but this time the company is definitely looking beyond smartphones and tablets and entering new markets of growth.
