The ride-hailing mobile application, Careem has launched rickshaw hailing service “Tezz Rickshaw” in Karachi and Lahore, as a pilot project.
Auto rickshaws are one of the most common riding mediums in Pakistan. The cheaper rates and convenient services of Careem Tezz will help in reducing the congestion of traffic on roads and provide a cleaner environment. After the success of car-hailing services in the two cities of Pakistan, Careem is all set to launch its rickshaw service.
Initially, Tezz will charge a base rate of Rs. 60 and a minimum fare of Rs. 75 to a limited number of customers. Careem MD Pakistan, Junaid Iqbal said,
“Rickshaws are the transport lifeline for Pakistan’s urban populace. They operate out of stands, which makes for highly inefficient dispatching. We are doing a pilot project to see how well our technology can help accentuate the incomes of rickshaw drivers and provide a more economical option for commuters, woven with the ease that our technology provides.”
Careem said that it will not compromise over the quality and will continue to provide affordable and safe services with trained captains and fully inspected vehicles.
The rival, Uber has already launched uberAUTO services in Lahore and Karachi and now Careem is planning on entering the competition in rickshaw hailing.
Founded in 2012, Careem is a Dubai-based car-hailing service which is operating in about 47 cities of Middle Eastern North Africa (MENA). It aims to provide safe, reliable and affordable services to its customers. It started its services in Pakistan in 2015. Just recently, Careem introduced female Captains in Pakistan. Also, it has raised $350 million in investment for expanding its services. Saudi Arab’s telecom company will buy 10 percent stake in Careem soon.
