A social initiative ‘Robin Hood Army’ that works towards preventing wastage of excess food, has now spread to other cities across Pakistan and recently along with Careem, it pledged to feed 10,000 poor Pakistanis.
According to a recent economic survey, 25% of Pakistan’s population sleeps hungry at night. Hundreds of children die each week due to malnutrition while other shows stunted growth due to lack of sufficient diet. Even today, hunger and malnutrition are one of the major issues across Pakistan.
However, Careem has decided to play its part to feed as many people as it can. For this purpose, Careem has partnered with Robin Hood Army and together they would pick food from people’s home and provide to less fortunate people. They have pledged to feed 10,000 hungry people in four days.
Careem has launched a #BeCareem, a special car type in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad. Users can book a #BeCareem ride from 12th to 14th April and would donate surplus food to needy people. Careem will receive the donations and surplus food right from the user’s doorstep and with the help of Robin Hood Army’s assistance, this food will be delivered to those who are hungry and in need.
Junaid Iqbal, Managing Director, Careem Pakistan, said,
“According to World Food Program, 60% of Pakistan’s population is food vulnerable. We are filling plates and hearts. I request people to donate wholeheartedly and make a difference, however small that maybe, in the lives of our fellow people. Nobody should have to sleep hungry and this can be our step towards ensuring that”.
Careem takes pride to start such projects which can make life better. In the past, Careem has a history to partner with several non-profit organizations and takes initiatives to improve the lives of impoverished people.
