Careem has announced a Hackathon to be held in Lahore on November 30, 2019. The event has been named “The Great Hack” by Careem and is being supported by Daftarkhwan – an up and coming co-working space in Lahore.
The Hackathon will be a 24-hours “for bounty” event where selected developers will solve problems related to mobility, payments, and delivery with the goal to simplify and improve people’s lives. The event will be judged by senior engineers and engineering leaders from Careem and participants can expect to win prizes worth up to $3,000. The event is open to all who register, however, participation is on an invite-only basis. Participants can register for the event using this form.
Zeeshan Hasib Baig, General Manager Careem Pakistan, commented on the announcement: “The first engineering team in Careem was based in Pakistan and this is where our first line of code was written. The tech talent in the country is largely unexplored and we are building our engineering capacity in the country in addition to our tech hubs in Dubai and Berlin. The Great Hack is one of our efforts to develop the tech ecosystem in the country and help leapfrog our region into the digital future”
Careem has been building its engineering capacity in Pakistan, having announced the establishment of Pakistan as a tech hub earlier in September. For that, Careem will be staffing up to 100 new engineers in Lahore in addition to the team already established in Karachi. Careem’s Lahore Engineering team will be based out of Daftarkhwan, a co-working and networking space for entrepreneurs, start-ups and professionals driven towards innovating, sharing and growing together.
