This May, the International Centre for Journalists and Hacks/Hackers Pakistan are collaborating to organize a data bootcamp at the Center for Excellence in Journalism, Institute of Business Administration Karachi. The d|Bootcamp will be a 3 day long event that will kick start from May 7th and ends at May 9th.
The d|Bootcamp is coming with a mission to turn our society into a digital democracy and grant access of governmental, budget, and civic data to journalists, civic activists, developers and designers to enhance public discussions that are not only analytic but also evidence based. The boot camp is going to provide them a platform for collaboration and train them on how to find, clean, map and visualize data to create stories and tools that improve citizens’ access to services and information.
Trainers from Code For Africa, International Centre for Journalists Knight program and the Technology for People Initiative (TPI) at LUMS will deliver hands on, guided practicals. To maximize the utility of this training, participants will work in multidisciplinary teams to develop, design and pitch data-driven story and app ideas around issues like public spending, health, education etc. The teams with the most innovative use of data in their story / app proposal will win a cash prize to develop their story or build out their proposed app toward piloting practical projects.
The d|Bootcamp is free to attend but travel or boarding costs are not covered. Comprehensive details about the event and complete agenda can be found on the official websit of d|Bootcamp.
