Broadband penetration to cross 38 percent by 2020, says Anusha Rahman

The Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Mrs. Anusha Rahman, has revealed that mobile broadband penetration in Pakistan is expected cross 38 percent by 2020.

Anusha Rahman was attending Telenor’s “License Awarding Ceremony” at the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications. She handed over the 850 MHz license to Mr. Michael Foley ex-CEO Telenor Pakistan. While congratulating Telenor and appreciating their role in Pakistan’s technology industry, she also praised them for participating in all the 3 spectrum auctions in Pakistan in the last twelve years.

She also mentioned that Telenor has played a significant role with other operators in Biometric Sim verification process as well as extended their support in handling the menace of Gray Traffic.

Broadband penetration in Pakistan

Anusha Rahman also took the time to disclose some interesting statics about the Pakistani telecom industry. She said that when she had taken office, broadband penetration was less than 3%. On the contrary, now it is up to an impressive 19%. Furthermore, the Minister said that she has a goal to take that figure to over 38 percent by 2020.
